The Water Tender is a land-based fire-fighting vehicle in 112 Operator whose primary feature is a massive Water Capacity of 40 units. This allows the vehicle to handle multiple fires - even large ones - before having to refill its water tank. It is particularly useful for Major Fires, as it is unlikely to run out of water while trying to put them out. Otherwise, its driving characteristics are somewhat lackluster, making it more of a specialized tool than a general-purpose unit.
Description[]
"A huge cistern, holds a lot of water. Useful in case of a big area fires."
Overview[]
The Water Tender is a land-based fire-fighting vehicle with a massive Water Capacity of 40.0. It is usually unlocked partway into a career, scenario, or freeplay game, either together with or slightly after the Aerial Ladder Truck.
The Water Tender's huge water capacity is equal to that of four Fire Trucks. With a full tank, it can visit and resolve several fire incidents, including large house fires, without having to stop to refill water. This ability is particularly useful in the vicinity of parks or other non-urbanized areas where hydrants are not available, and a regular Fire Truck might have to make one or more stops to refill.
With a crew of only 2 firefighters, the Fire Tender takes more time to handle fires compared to a Fire Truck. Nevertheless, it does still provide a modest +0.25 Extinguish Fire skill bonus to both of its crewmembers, making them more useful than some smaller vehicle crews during fire incidents. Still, the Water Tender's advantage is its endurance, not its speed of work, so don't count on it to put out larger fires (or multiple fire elements) as quickly as an ordinary Fire Truck. It is also not very useful for tech work.
The Water Tender is most useful when handling Major Fires. A single tender can sometimes put out a dozen fire sectors without refilling, and may even be able to stop an entire Major Fire event on its own, if micro-managed correctly. This is doubly true if the park is nowhere near a water source, forcing other vehicles to make long trips back and forth while the tender just keeps on working.
Unfortunately, the Water Tender's driving characteristics are mediocre at best, with a top speed of only 80 that decreases significantly offroad or in traffic; but once it gets to its destination it can usually just stay there until the work is done. Keep a Water Tender near suspected Major Fire flashpoints or other areas prone to large fires, where it can shine. Otherwise, a Fire Truck might be more suitable.
