Plot 1[]

Summary[]

The caller, a woman, begins the conversation by ordering pizza. After trying to correct her mistake, the Operator quickly realizes that the woman did in fact intend to call 911, and is trying to pretend that she is ordering a pizza in order to avoid violent retaliation from someone else in the room.

The Operator asks a series of simple questions to ascertain the caller's location and the situation she is in. When the questions become too complicated to answer without revealing the ruse, the caller hangs up.

A police unit and ambulance arrive at the scene, arresting a drunken man and treating the woman's light injuries.

Trivia[]

This call incident is based on a real dispatch call that took place in Boulder, Colorado in 2014, with many lines being identical or near-identical to the transcript of that original call. In the real-world scenario, the woman indicated that there were no weapons in the house.

A similar call famously occurred in 2019 in Oregon. The practice of calling 911 in guise of ordering pizza has since become more common, though also more dangerous to attempt.
