A Speed Camera is a facility in 112 Operator provided by the Facilities DLC. It can be placed on the map for €12,000. When certain incidents pass within the Speed Camera's small radius, they are automatically resolved. You receive a predetermined amount of money in fines, but no reputation is awarded.

Placing, Moving, Removing[]

With the Facilities DLC installed, a Speed Camera can be placed by accessing the Facilities tab between duties, clicking the Speed Camera entry in the list, and then selecting a position on the map. You must have €12,000 available.

A Speed Camera may be placed anywhere on dry land, including on roads, buildings, parks, or even wilderness - anything except water. You may place Speed Cameras outside accessible districts, if you wish. The money is spent only once the Speed Camera is placed; you may cancel the purchase before then without any penalty.

The Speed Camera's radius of effect is marked with a green circle whenever you hover over the Camera's icon, both during and between duties.

Between duties, any Speed Camera may be moved around freely without paying any extra money, by clicking and dragging its icon on the map. It may be sold for €6,000 (half the purchase price) by switching to Facilities mode and clicking the small "$" button next to the Camera's icon.

Stopping Incidents[]

The Speed Camera has a small radius of effect. When certain traffic-related incidents move into this radius, they are instantly and automatically resolved. Each suspect is automatically fined for the amount stated in the incident script - exactly as if the suspect was fined in person by a police officer - and the money is instantly added to your bank balance. However, you receive no Reputation reward for resolving the incident.

Only a specific set of incidents can be resolved by a Speed Camera (they are all listed below), all of which are moving incidents. The Police Camera simply saves you the time and effort that would've been required to resolve the incident using police. The price you pay for this (other than the price of the Speed Camera itself) is the loss of any Reputation reward, though most such incidents don't usually give out more than 1 or 2 Reputation points anyway.

Another benefit to Speed Cameras is that they prevent any possible confrontation with the police. Several of the incidents stopped by Cameras include at least one aggressive suspect, who might start a fight and could end up getting injured - or worse, injure a police officer. A suspect who decides to fight must be arrested, forfeiting the fine. When stopped by a Camera, this is completely avoided, and the suspects are always fined.

List of Stopped Incidents[]

Below is a list of every incident that would automatically be stopped when passing through a Speed Camera. Any incident not listed here will not be stopped.

Incident Fine If stopped by police...
Minimum Maximum
Vehicle Theft €1,000 €1,500 Always arrested, no fine.
Speeding €1,000 €1,500 Usually fined, rarely arrested.
Red Light Offence €1,000 €1,400 Usually fined, rarely arrested.
Drunk Driver €2,000 €3,000 Almost always arrested, rarely fined.
Mad Driver €3,000 €5,000 Usually arrested, sometimes fined.
Wrong-Way Driving €1,000 €1,500 Usually fined, rarely arrested.
Illegal Racing €6,000 €8,000 Usually both drivers are fined, sometimes one or both are arrested.
Bicycle Theft €1,000 €1,500 Always arrested, no fine. Likely to fight police.

Positioning Tips[]

The small effect radius of the Speed Camera makes its placement crucial. It must be placed in a location where moving incidents are likely to go, otherwise it won't have any effect and won't pay back the investment.

Correctly placing a Speed Camera requires you to be at least somewhat familiar with the map you're playing, and understand both where traffic incidents are likely to spawn, and where they're likely to go.

In general, it is best to look for the following:

  1. Large and important intersections, especially where two long, straight roads meet.
  2. Highways and highway junctions.
  3. Bridges over rivers, especially if there aren't any other bridges nearby.
  4. Any road that is the sole connection between two adjacent districts, or one of only a few connections between them.

Additionally, it's important to note that moving Incidents usually tend to try to avoid police units attempting to reach them. This is especially true for more dangerous incidents like bike/car thieves, who will actively drive away from any police units. You can exploit this to actively "push" an incident towards a speed camera.

A well-placed Speed Camera can pay off its entire cost within just a couple of duties. If a Camera isn't paying for itself, consider moving it elsewhere before starting the next Duty (there is no extra charge for doing so).
