The Police Amphibious Vehicle is an all-terrain police vehicle that was added with the 112 Operator Water Operations DLC. It is the only non-airborne police vehicle in the game that can drive on both water and land, and does so without any complications or loss of speed. Other than this ability - and a hefty pricetag - it is nearly identical to the Police Dinghy, carrying 2 police officers and up to one arrested criminal. These features make it somewhat overpriced, though it can still serve a good purpose in specific situations.

Description[]

"An amphibious vehicle used by the police. It provides basic protection for officers and can transport a small number of criminals."

Overview[]

The Police Amphibious Vehicle is an all-terrain police vehicle added only in the Water Operations DLC. It is often unlocked in the later stages of a career, scenario, or freeplay campaign, and only if water districts have already become available on the selected map.

The main defining property of the Police Amphibious Vehicle is that it can drive on both land and water. In both cases, it has a maximum speed of 115 - slightly slower than a Police Dinghy - making it one of the slowest water vehicles in the game. Unable to quickly cross large bodies of water, it can instead be used for patrolling a shoreline and reacting to incidents both in the water and outside it with equal effectiveness. It can also be used in an area with multiple canals or a river without bridges, allowing it to quickly go across as though the water wasn't even there.

The Police Amphibious Vehicle carries 2 officers. Just like the Police Dinghy, it can only carry one arrested criminal to jail, somewhat limiting its usefulness for resolving criminal incidents; but it does have a respectable Armor value of 0.3 - 50% more than a Patrol Car or Patrol Boat - which helps protect the officers during shootouts. This makes it a reasonably good backup vehicle to bolsters police numbers at the site of an impending confrontation with smugglers, robbers, etc.

Despite its size, the Police Amphibious Vehicle is very nimble when going through heavy traffic, suffering only 50% of the normal speed penalty. However its offroad speed - like most other police vehicles - is severely impaired, at just 28. An acceleration value of 3 also impairs its usefulness for conducting a manual, sector-by-sector search.

Unfortunately, the Police Amphibious Vehicle has a very serious drawback: its purchase price of €90,000. For just €5,000 more, you could purchase both a Police Dinghy and a Patrol Car to handle incidents on water and land (respectively) in the same general area, more effectively than a single Police Amphibious Vehicle. Thus, the PAV's utility is dubious, though it might still be useful in areas with multiple canals, where neither a boat nor a land vehicle would have an easy time patrolling freely.
