The Pickup Truck is a land-based police vehicle in 112 Operator that is specifically designed to patrol inside parks. Identical in some ways to a basic Patrol Car, the Pickup Truck carries 2 officers and can carry an additional 2 arrested criminals. Its road speed is equal to that of a Police Van, but it loses none of it speed while traveling offroad, making it the fastest land-based police vehicle in those conditions. It is also cheaper than a Patrol Car, and has a little extra bonus to its Search speed.
Description[]
"A police pickup car. Can go offroad and can transport suspects."
Overview[]
The Pickup Truck becomes unlocked only a few days into a career, scenario, or freeplay game. It is specifically designed for patrolling inside large parks.
The Pickup Truck shares many similarities with the basic Patrol Car, and generally operates the same way. It carries 2 police officers (like most police vehicle), and can also carry up to 2 arrested criminals to jail after resolving an incident. This allows a Pickup Truck to resolve the majority of criminal incidents on its own, without assistance from other units.
With a top speed of 120, the Pickup Truck is fast enough to respond as backup to other units for shootouts or mass arrests; however its Armor value is very low, at only 1 point, putting the officers at risk of being shot. Nevertheless, if it is close enough to the incident to respond in time, 2 extra officers on site are still better than nothing. Note that a speed of 120 does allow Pickup Trucks to intercept and stop criminals moving around in cars, though it could take the truck a long time to catch up if it doesn't have a good head start.
The Pickup Truck's most impressive ability, however, lies in retaining its top speed of 120 while driving offroad. This makes it the fastest land vehicle in offroad situations by far. Thus, Pickup Trucks are the best units for patrolling the vicinity of a large park, and responding to any incidents occurring inside those parks. Only Helicopters are faster in these situations, and they are far more expensive. Note that the Pickup Truck doesn't ignore traffic, suffering the full traffic speed penalty when driving through it, but can instead just be told to go offroad and avoid the traffic altogether.
Finally, the Pickup Truck provides both of its officers with a Search skill bonus of +0.25. Though modest, this bonus still helps greatly whenever a search area overlaps parkland, in which case the Pickup Truck will be one of the fastest vehicles to assist, going sector-by-sector through the park.
As far as money goes, the Pickup Truck is one of the more modestly-expensive police vehicles, at a cost of only €40,000. This is 20% cheaper than a Police Car, while providing largely the same abilities (albeit with a slower speed on roads). As such, it's generally a good idea to buy and place at least one Pickup Truck at the edge of every large park, or even well inside that park. It's also a good idea to place Pickup Trucks in distant areas that are connected to the city by long, winding roads; The Pickup Truck can simply cut through the countryside instead of following the road, losing no speed in the process.
