The Patrol Car is the basic land-based police vehicle in 112 Operator. Fast and effective, a Patrol Car can control a large urban area fairly effectively, only requiring assistance when dealing with multiple armed suspects, unusual circumstances, or offroad terrain. Its speed allows it to reach incidents quickly, chase down criminals effectively, conduct searches with relative ease, and support other police vehicles in all manner of situations. Despite being rivaled by the Unmarked Police Car later in the game, its price keeps it rather competitive throughout.
Description[]
"A basic police vehicle. Can get to the place of the incident fast and can be used to transport suspects."
Overview[]
The Patrol Car is the "standard" police vehicle that is usually available right at the start of any career, scenario, or freeplay game. Despite there being many other useful police vehicles available, the Patrol Car is likely to remain an important tool through the entire run.
The Patrol Car combines several important advantages in one package: Speed, carrying capacity, and protection. It is a jack-of-all-trades, designed to be able deal with multiple types of situations on its own, while also being able to provide good support to other units in unconventional or dangerous situations.
The Patrol Car's top speed is 150, making it one of the faster road vehicles in the game (though nowhere near the fastest police vehicle). It can quickly reach incidents within a large urban area. However, its speed is reduced to only 37 when driving offroad, and it suffers the full speed penalty from traffic. Early on, only the Police Motorcycle is faster, but not by very much. Later, the Unmarked Police Car directly rivals the Patrol Car by being faster without giving up any other advantages (though it also costs 50% more money).
Patrol Cars are crewed by 2 police officers, one of whom should have a high Driving Skill to capitalize on the Patrol Car's top speed. Although the officers receive no bonuses to their performance, the Patrol Car's speed and acceleration make it a good search vehicle when going sector-by-sector. With two officers aboard, Patrol Cars can easily resolve the majority of incidents - up and and including fights with one or two armed suspects - but should not be counted on to handle larger fights or shootouts on their own unless both officers are very well equipped for it. The Patrol Car's low armor value of 2 also puts the officers in some danger. Thanks to their high speed, however, multiple Patrol Cars can quickly respond to the same incident to provide each other with backup during such large-scale fights.
Patrol Cars can carry 2 arrested criminals to jail simultaneously. This allows them to handle two minor arrest incidents in a row without having to visit a police station, or provide some help in clearing out a large arrest incident such as a gang war or violent protest. The speed at which a Patrol Car can hop over to a station and get back to the incident site helps greatly, as well. Nevertheless, it can always help to send along a Police Van or Special Forces Van if multiple arrests are expected.
Patrol Cars can stop any fleeing criminals no matter their mode of transport, though it can take the Car a while to catch up to fast-moving vehicles. A Chase Proficiency value of 15 helps greatly there. Alternatively, a faster vehicle (such as a Police Motorcycle) can be used to intercept a fast-moving incident quickly and begin the arrest procedure while a Patrol Car makes its way to the scene.
Finally, it is important to compare the Patrol Car to another vehicle unlocked later in the campaign: the Unmarked Police Car. There are only two real differences between these two vehicles: Speed and cost. The Patrol Car costs only €50,000 compared to the Unmarked Car's €75,000 (a 50% increase), but the Unmarked Car is faster at a top speed of 180. The speed difference can be crucial, but so can the price difference. Unless ample funds are available, it is typically best to mix these two vehicles in the police fleet rather than trying to replace all Patrol Cars with Unmarked Cars; otherwise the Patrol Car is objectively inferior.
