- "Mr Adams, enough of all that hiding! You're acting... Oh! Jesus, Mary and Joseph...he jumped out the window!"
Panic Attack is a Call Incident in 112 Operator. This call will not trigger on its own; it will only be triggered by the New Year's Eve event. This call can spawn up to three separate scenes (including a search area), and may require both police and medical response of varying degrees, depending on the course of the phone conversation. The call dialogue is completely predictable (no randomized responses from the caller), but the outcome can be very different based on the operator's choices.
The incident involves a woman calling on New Year's Eve to complain about children setting off fireworks outside. She's taking care of an old war veteran with PTSD, Mr. Adams; the fireworks are triggering his condition, severely agitating him. The outcomes of the incident greatly diverge from this point. In the simplest and most optimal outcome, the operator advises the caller to sedate Mr. Adams by giving him an extra dose of his regular psychiatric medication. This calms Mr. Adams down, although police must still go reprimand the teenagers; and medics must check up on Mr. Adams to make sure he's alright.
However, there are also two complex, sub-optimal endings, triggered by bad choices during the conversation. One involves an attack by Mr. Adams on his caretaker; the other involves Mr. Adams fleeing the apartment, which necessitates a search and rescue mission.
For the best solution to this call, see this guide.
Opening Lines[]
| Speaker | Line | |
|---|---|---|
| Operator | 112, what's your emergency? | |
| Caller | Listen. Can you hear this?! These damn kids... They're throwing firecrackers! Poor Mr Adams is hiding under the table! | |
Trigger Conditions[]
The Panic Attack incident is a scripted incident; it cannot spawn unless specifically triggered by an Event.
In Campaign mode, this incident will only be triggered during the New Year's Eve duty. This always happens on Duty #25 or 29, depending on whether or not the Pandemic Outbreak DLC is installed. It is always the second Call Incident to occur on that duty (after the Firecracker Accident).
Since New Year's Eve does not occur in Freeplay or Scenario games, the Panic Attack incident will never occur in those game modes.
Structure[]
The Panic Attack incident is a Call Incident, which begins with a phone conversation with a citizen. The call is completely predictable: it contains no randomized responses from the caller, and the outcome depends entirely on choices made by the operator; the same choices will always lead to the same results.
This incident includes a total of three sites: The Apartment Scene, a Search Area, and the Panic Attack Scene. However, the progress of the phone conversation determines which of these - if any - will appear on the map during the incident.
By default, only the Apartment Scene will appear on the map during the incident. This happens as soon as the caller reveals her address (which always happens during the natural course of the conversation).
The Search Area and Panic Attack Scene only appear if the caller is convinced to try sedating Mr. Adams (which should optimally be done), but is given bad instructions on how to do so, causing Mr. Adams will escape the apartment. This spawns the Search Area in the vicinity of the Apartment Scene. Once the search is concluded, the Panic Attack Scene is revealed. This is a sub-optimal outcome, unnecessarily increasing the amount of work required to resolve this incident, and reducing the reward for resolving it.
Call Summary[]
The Panic Attack incident occurs on New Year's Eve. An older woman calls to complain about a group of teenagers setting off firecrackers outside. She explains that she is taking care of a war veteran - Mr. Adams - who is suffering from PTSD. She says the firecracker noises are triggering his condition, and he is hiding under the table in a panic.
The operator decides to send a police unit to reprimand the teenagers and get them to stop. However, in the meanwhile, he advises the caller to give Mr. Adams another dose of his regular sedatives. He instructs her to kneel down to Mr. Adams' level and speak calmly to him; remind him that it's just New Year's Eve and that everything is okay; and then give him the pills crushed into water or mixed into some food. This helps calm Mr. Adams down.
Police soon arrive and tell off the teenagers. They also speak with the caller, while medics do a routine check on Mr. Adams to ensure that he's alright.
Sub-optimal Endings[]
This incident has two sub-optimal endings that are relatively complex.
In one ending, the Operator tells the caller to be stern with Mr. Adams to get him to see reason; or force him to take his pills. Either option leads to Mr. Adams escaping the apartment and running off. The operator could advise the caller to go looking for him, or tell her to stay in the apartment and leave it to the police. Either way, a search of the area must be conducted, which ends up with Mr. Adams being found hiding in a bush in the park. He has injured himself, and must be taken to a hospital. Police will still need to give a stern lecture to the teenagers, as well.
In another ending, instead of sending police to reprimand the teenagers, the operator can tell the caller to try and scare off the children herself. She goes to the window the shout at them, but the shouting instead triggers Mr. Adams, who attacks his caretaker. In this situation, the roles are now reversed: Medics must treat the caller and taker her to a hospital, while Mr. Adams must be questioned by police.

Apartment Scene[]
This scene only appears on the map once either of the following conditions is met:
- The caller is asked her address. This will eventually be asked automatically by the operator, since it is necessary in order to advance the conversation beyond the intro stage.
- About 450 seconds of real-time have elapsed (on SLOW game speed) from the moment the conversation began.
The scene usually contains four police elements and one medical element. However, the course of the conversation can change these elements somewhat. At minimum, there will only be three police elements here.
This scene will always spawn on a building. Note that some maps may have buildings inside parks, or in other wilderness areas not connected by roads.
Description[]
This scene takes place near a building. Three teenagers are outside, setting off fireworks. In most cases, the caller (or "Worried Woman") and Mr. Adams are both inside; but this can change depending on the conversation options selected.
The three teenagers must always be questioned by police, no matter what happens. They each take a different amount of time to question, but on average they take as long as any three witnesses would normally take.
By default, the caller must also be questioned by police (which takes less time than normal), while Mr. Adams is checked by medics. Mr. Adams is not injured, so it is relatively quick. He does not need to be taken to a hospital.
If Mr. Adams has had a psychotic break, the roles are reversed: The caller must now be treated by medics, while Mr. Adams is questioned by police. Both take longer to complete than the non-reversed versions. However, the caller must also be taken to hospital after she's treated.
If Mr. Adams has escaped the apartment, neither version of him will be in this scene. Similarly, if the caller was instructed to GO AFTER HIM!, she will not be here either.
Resolution[]
There is no time limit to reach this scene.
The default reputation reward for resolving this scene is +6.
The default penalty for ignoring this scene is -8, subject to multipliers from the current difficulty setting. The penalty is actually reduced to -6 if Mr. Adams escapes the apartment.
Both the reward and penalty are adjusted positively by +3 points when telling the caller to GIVE HIM SOME WATER or MIX THEM WITH FOOD. Only one of these can be selected.
Ignore Penalty[]
- The penalty for ignoring this scene decreases as certain elements are resolved. Mr. Adams (if present) reduces the penalty by 2 points; whereas the caller (if present), as well as each of the three teenagers, reduce it by 1.

Search Area[]
A Search Area and Automatic Search Site can appear on the map during the phone conversation. They will always be nearby the Apartment Scene.
The Search Area is a rectangle, 3 sectors wide on each side - for a total of 9 sectors. One of these sectors (selected at random) contains the hidden incident site you're searching for.
Each sector requires 80 seconds of Search Work to complete - a significant amount. This is reduced by 30 Work Seconds if the caller is told to chase after Mr. Adams. The search can be done by any unit. Once the specific sector containing the hidden incident site is completely searched, the hidden incident site appears and the search is over.
Resolution[]
There is no time limit to completing the search. There is no reward for completing the search, either.
The penalty for ignoring the search itself is -2 Reputation points, subject to multipliers from the current difficulty setting. This does not include the penalty for the hidden incident, which would also be ignored.
Once the search is completed, it reveals the Panic Attack Scene, described below.

Panic Attack Scene[]
This scene only appears on the map once the correct Search sector has been completed. It will appear inside that sector. At that point, all other search sectors and Automatic Search Sites will disappear.
The scene contains one medical element, and may also contain a police element, depending on the flow of the conversation.
Description[]
This scene takes place in a park. Mr Adams is always here, hiding in a bush. The caller ("Worried Woman") may also be here, if she was told to chase Mr. Adams as he ran from the apartment.
Mr. Adams requires a check by medics. He isn't physically injured, so it takes relatively little time. However, he does require transport to hospital after the treatment.
If the caller is here, she must be questioned by police. This takes less time than a normal witness.
Resolution[]
There is no time limit to reach this scene.
The reputation reward for resolving this scene is +2, increased to +3 if the Worried Woman is also present.
The penalty for ignoring this scene is -2, increased to -3 if the Worried Woman is also present. Both cases are subject to multipliers from the current difficulty setting.
Ignore Penalty[]
- The penalty for ignoring this scene decreases as elements are resolved. Mr. Adams reduces the penalty by 2 points; whereas the caller reduces it by 1.
