A LRAD is a police officer melee weapon* added with the 112 Operator Facilities DLC. It can only be placed into the Melee Weapon slot of a police gear set, and costs €4,000 to purchase as part of that set. The LRAD is a Pacification weapon, with an extremely high firing rate and no chance of injuring the target. It requires up to 15 hits to force a suspect to surrender, but will usually be able to score hits very quickly during combat. The high purchase cost is its only real drawback.
Description[]
"Long Range Acoustic Device - a sonic weapon that uses high volumes and sound waves of the correct frequency to cause pain and discomfort, detering aggressors."
Overview[]
The LRAD is available only with the Facilities DLC and is generally the last Pacification weapon to be unlocked during a career, scenario, or freeplay game. It can only be added to a police gear set, and goes only in the Melee Weapon slot.
Though classified as a "Melee Weapon" and placed into the Melee Weapon slot, the LRAD has a range of 6 meters, allowing it to engage from further away. If the officer is not within range or the target, they will move into range automatically, so long as they are not also holding a longer-ranged main weapon such as a Handgun. As a result, it is often best to equip an officer with only an LRAD, forcing them to close the distance and use this weapon.
The LRAD has the fastest firing rate of any weapon in the game, at only 0.9 - meaning that it attacks once per 0.9 seconds of real time (on SLOW game-speed). This allows the officer to always get the first few attacks in any combat scenario, which can be crucial to avoid retaliation.
The weapon itself has an Accuracy rating of 50%. In other words, the chance to hit the target with each attack is equal to half the officer's own Accuracy skill. For example, an officer with 50% Accuracy has a 25% chance to hit the target with each attack of the LRAD.
The LRAD has a Damage rating of 0, and therefore no chance of injuring its target. If used on its own, it will never cause injuries, thus removing the need to send medics to treat the target and remove it to a hospital.
The LRAD instead provides its user with a Pacification bonus of +0.07. Pacification means that the suspect stops fighting and submits to an arrest. With a Pacification level of 0.07, it would take exactly 15 hits with an LRAD to pacify any suspect; though it could happen earlier for various reasons.
Despite the low Pacification rating and Accuracy, the LRAD attacks so quickly that it can subdue a suspect incredibly quickly - sometimes faster than a Handgun would need to get even a single shot off. It can then re-engage a new target almost instantly, potentially taking out large crowds of criminals. The main downside, of course, is the price tag of €4,000, which makes it prohibitively expensive during much of the game. Dedicated riot-control officers (especially those riding in a Water Cannon) can use this weapon very effectively, and do not need to carry an expensive Ranged Weapon at all, mitigating this cost.
