The Knife is a melee weapon in 112 Operator. It is carried only by civilians, and cannot be purchased for any emergency personnel. It is a fairly dangerous civilian weapon, capable of quickly injuring a police officer.
Description[]
"The tool with a cutting edge or blade attached to a handle. It can be used as a weapon."
Overview[]
The Knife is a common weapon carried only by criminals. Many different criminals carry a knife, especially low-level criminals who are not expecting to encounter police, such as thieves, burglars, gang members, rioters and vandals.
The Knife has a firing rate of 10, attacks once per 10 seconds of real time (on SLOW game-speed). This is the same speed as a Handgun, allowing most officers to get a shot off before the knife-wielder gets into range.
If the criminal does get a chance to attack, however, a knife has an almost perfect Accuracy rating of 95%. In other words, the chance to hit the target with each attack is nearly equal to the criminal's own Accuracy skill. If the targeted officer is wearing armor that provides a Protection bonus, or rides around in a vehicle that has any Armor rating, the chance is reduced accordingly.
The knife has a Damage rating of 0.40, which gives it a very good chance of injuring the targeted officer each time it hits - instantly taking them out of the fight and requiring them to be treated and transported to hospital. If the officer isn't wearing any protective armor with a Damage Reduction bonus, the 3rd hit from a Knife is guaranteed to injure them. Armor with Damage Reduction mitigates this, potentially allowing the officer to endure more than 3 hits before going down - but there are no guarantees.
Fortunately, criminals carrying this weapon are generally scripted to surrender by default when confronted with any number of police officers; but may still attempt to fight, on higher game difficulty or rare occasions, especially when they are in large groups.
Furthermore, the Knife is a Melee Weapon, and can only attack at Melee range (1.5). Criminals carrying Knives will always move into Melee range of the officer they're attacking - allowing the officer to use their own Melee Weapon, if they carry one. Some police melee weapons, like the Tonfa and Taser, have the same speed as a knife, allowing the officer to get an attack in with that weapon right before the criminal goes in for a stab.
