Kitchen on Fire is a Generic Call Incident featured in 911 Operator. This call has four different storylines, all starting with a call from a woman who says that her kitchen is on fire.
What exactly is on fire is determined by random chance during the early part of the call. It could be the woman's counter, her toaster, or oil in a frying pan. An additional random element determines whether the call can be solved by the caller herself, creating a fourth storyline. Each of these situations requires a completely different response from the operator, though three of the four can be resolved through conversation and allow the call to be ultimately ignored.
As a Generic Call, Kitchen on Fire may be triggered at any time during Free Play mode.
During Career play, this call may occur multiple times.
Opening Lines[]
Speaker | Line |
---|---|
Operator | "911, what's your emergency?" |
Caller | Help! My kitchen is on fire. |
Randomized Plot Structure[]
This call has four possible plots, but its structure is relatively simple. It starts with a common intro in which the operator asks what's on fire. This triggers a random roll to determine which of three objects in the kitchen is burning (a 33% chance of each) - leading to plots 1, 2 or 3.
Whichever plot is selected, the operator is presented with three possible solutions (fire extinguisher, damp cloth or simply water). Only one option is correct for the selected plot. Choosing the correct option has a good chance to lead directly to the successful end of the conversation, allowing you to IGNORE the call for +2 Reputation.
Two of the scenarios have a chance for the correct solution to fail anyway (20% for the oil, 50% for the toaster). Both failed cases lead to a fourth plot that must be resolved with firefighter response.
Attempting the objectively wrong solution for the selected plot results in the fire getting worse and/or the woman getting severely hurt, reducing your Reputation reward and requiring you to dispatch an ambulance together with the firefighters.
Intro[]
The first part of this incident call is identical regardless of whatever plot unfolds. It is described here as an entry-point into the four different plots. The plots diverge immediately once the caller reports which item in her kitchen is on fire.
Summary[]
A woman calls 911 in a panic to report that her kitchen is on fire. The operator tries to determine which object is on fire, in the hope of enacting a procedural response that might save the situation immediately.

Plot 1: Counter[]
This plot occurs if the woman reported that the burning item in her kitchen is her countertop.
Summary[]
The woman reports that the countertop in her kitchen is on fire, after she'd accidentally thrown a cloth too close to the burner. The operator realizes that simply pouring water on the counter will put out the fire, and instructs the caller to so do, which she does. She thanks the operator, and the call is IGNORED.

- By default, only the caller is here, and is already resolved, requiring no interaction. This is only possible if you've sent units to the house after already resolving the conversation properly, but never pressed "IGNORE" before units arrived on the scene. The call will instantly end with no Reputation points awarded.
- If the caller was instructed to use a damp cloth, and/or instructed to use an extinguisher but didn't have one, the "Fire" element is added to the scene, taking between 100 and 150 seconds of Fire Work to put out. Resolving this situation rewards you with +2 Reputation.

Operator | No problem. Just doing my job. | Reputation set to 0. |
Caller | Bye! | Call ended. |
Choices to Avoid[]
Avoid telling the woman I'LL SEND FIREFIGHTERS
, as it is completely unnecessary for this particular plot.
Additionally, USE A DAMP CLOTH
will fail, and then lock you into trying the fire extinguisher (which only has a 50% chance of success) or calling the firefighters - which, again, is unnecessary. Just use water.
Plot 2: Oil[]
This plot occurs if the woman reported that the burning item in her kitchen is oil in a frying pan.
Summary[]
The woman reports that a frying pan full of oil is on fire. The correct procedure to put out burning oil is to cover the frying pan with a damp cloth. The operator explains this to the caller, who puts out the fire handily. She thanks the operator, and the call is IGNORED.

This is only possible if you've sent units to the house after already resolving the conversation properly, but never pressed "IGNORE" before units arrived on the scene. The call will instantly end with no Reputation points awarded.
- If the damp cloth solution failed, or the caller was instructed to use an extinguisher but didn't have one, the "Fire" element is added to the scene as listed above, taking between 100 and 150 seconds of Fire Work to put out. Resolving this situation rewards you with +2 Reputation.
- If the caller was instructed to use an extinguisher on the fire, the "Fire" element is added to the scene. Instead of its listed properties, it will take 200 seconds of work to put out, and has a Fire Growth rate of 1, which means it will likely take even more than that (depending on how quickly the firefighters arrived). Resolving the situation rewards you with only +1 Reputation.
- If the caller was instructed to use water on the fire, medical units must be dispatched along with firefighters. They will find the caller severely burned, requiring both treatment and transport to hospital. The "Fire" element is also added to the scene, but now takes up to 200 seconds of Fire Work to put out. Resolving the situation rewards you with only +1 Reputation.

Choices to Avoid[]
Under no circumstance should you tell the woman to USE WATER
or USE AN EXTINGUISHER
.
Also, you may want to save the question ADDRESS?
for later, as the caller's location doesn't become relevant unless the solution actually fails.
Plot 3: Toaster[]
This plot occurs if the woman reported that the burning item in her kitchen is her toaster.
Summary[]
The woman reports that the toaster in her kitchen is on fire, and that the fire is already spreading. Fearing electrocution if water were to be used, the operator instead instructs the woman to use her fire extinguisher on the burning appliance. This works, and the caller puts out the fire handily. She thanks the operator, and the call is IGNORED.

Plot 4: Out of Control[]
This plot occurs if the "correct" solutions to the burning item didn't work, whether because of random chance (20% chance when putting out an oil fire with a damp cloth) or because the woman doesn't have a fire extinguisher. In this case, it will be impossible to IGNORE the call, and firefighters must respond instead.
Summary[]
Despite the operator making the correct call for the type of fire in question, the solution failed to put out the fire.
Realizing that the woman will not be able to solve the problem herself, the operator instructs her to evacuate the house immediately and wait for firefighters to arrive. The firefighters put out the fire, and the situation is resolved.
