- Not to be confused with related subjects Heat Wave (112 Scenario) or Deal With The Heat (112 Objective).
Heatwave is an Event in 112 Operator. It triggers on Duty #9 of a Campaign Game, and can trigger during a Freeplay game on "Junior" and "Middle" difficulties only. It is also the central event of the Heat Wave scenario in Shanghai, with some modifications.
In this event, the city is experiencing abnormally hot weather for a period of several Duties. Emergency operators must deal with increased fire-related calls and medical conditions resulting from the extreme heat. Eventually, a massive fire may break out in one of the nearby forests.
The event adjusts the weather to hot and dry for its entire duration, causing certain Reported Incidents to become much more common. It also forces at least one Call Incident to occur, which may lead to a Major Fire. In the middle of the heatwave, a "sub-event" occurs in which the city instructs the fire department to set up water curtains for the citizens; success in that mission leads to a large monetary reward.
Effects[]
This event runs for a total of 4 Duties, during which it has a multitude of different effects:
- The event changes the weather to Hot, and prevents any rain, for its entire duration. This increases the prevalence of certain Reported Incidents which are more common during Hot weather.
- The event spawns either one or two Objectives - both confusingly named "Deal With The Heat".
- The event always triggers a Baby In A Car Call Incident on its first Duty, and may trigger Fire In The Woods later on - which results in a Major Fire breaking out.
- The event triggers a "sub-event" in which 5 instances of the Water Curtain Reported Incident spawn on the map throughout the course of a duty.
Weather[]
Regardless of anything else, the Heatwave event causes a change in weather that persists throughout its entire run. Temperatures will exceed 30 degrees Celsius during each duty (with one exception in Campaign mode, Duty #11).
Correspondingly, the event applies the "Hot" weather tag. This tag temporarily adjusts the Popularity value of multiple different Reported Incidents, making most of them more common than they normally are.
The following is a table of all affected incidents in the base game, and the change in their Popularity:
| Incident | Popularity | |
|---|---|---|
| Base | Hot Weather | |
| Bee Sting | 0 * | 6 |
| Bicycle Theft | 2 | 4 |
| Burn | 3 | 9 |
| Carbon Monoxide Poisoning | 2 | 0 ** |
| Cat In A Tree | 4 | 6 |
| Chemicals On Fire | 2 | 7 |
| Cyclist Hit By A Car | 4 | 6 |
| Fire At A Gas Station | 0 * | 1 |
| Fire In A Park | 3 | 9 |
| Fire In A Warehouse | 2 | 5 |
| Garden Accident | 1 | 5 |
| Heart Attack | 4 | 7 |
| Heat Stroke | 0 * | 20 |
| Hornet Nest | 3 | 7 |
| Kidnapping | 0 | 1 |
| Motorcycle Accident | 2 | 5 |
| Rape | 0 * | 2 |
| Sexual Intercourse In Public | 1 | 3 |
| Smoke From Unknown Source | 4 | 7 |
| Trash On Fire | 10 | 20 |
| Unconscious Person (v1) | 4 | 8 |
| Unconscious Person (v2) | 4 | 6 |
- * Incidents with a base popularity of 0 cannot spawn normally. Hot weather makes it possible for them to spawn at all.
** This incident is disabled by hot weather.
If the Water Operations DLC is installed, the following incidents are also adjusted:
| Incident | Popularity | |
|---|---|---|
| Base | Hot Weather | |
| A Drifting Man | 1 | 2 |
| Attempted Murder | 2 | 3 |
| Banana Water Crash | 0 * | 2 |

| Cyanobacterial Poisoning | 0 * | 2 |
| Dangerous Boating | 2 | 4 |
| Drowning Man | 3 | 5 |
| Drunk Helmsman | 1 | 2 |

| Shark Reported | 0 * | 1 |
| Surfer Searching ** | 2 | 3 |
| Swimming In A Prohibited Area | 2 | 3 |
| Trapped In Sand | 0 * | 1 |
| Unconscious Person (Water) | 1 | 3 |
| Washing Cars | 1 | 2 |
- * Incidents with a base popularity of 0 cannot spawn normally. Hot weather makes it possible for them to spawn at all.
** This incident cannot spawn at all, due to bad scripting.
Furthermore, the incident Kidnapping gets an extra +3 Popularity during the third duty of the event on Campaign mode (Duty #11), because that particular duty takes place during a hot night.
The weather is also set to zero precipitation (no rain) throughout its run, and will prevent any storms from occurring until it is over.
Note that other factors may change the popularity of various incidents; the numbers above only show the effect of Hot Weather, which may or may not be overridden.
Objective[]
In all three game modes (Campaign, Freeplay and Scenario), on the second duty of the Heatwave event, the Deal With The Heat objective is added to the player's objectives list.
This objective lasts for only a single Duty, and has a simple victory condition: successfully resolve all 5 Water Curtain incidents that always spawn during that same Duty. If even a single Water Curtain incident is ignored or allowed to time out, the objective will fail.
Completing the objective rewards the player with €50,000. Otherwise, the objective simply expires at the end of the duty, with no penalties.
NOTE: A second objective of the same name appears during Scenario games only. Read more on this below.
Reported Incidents[]
As part of the Objective described above, the Heatwave event spawns five instances of the Water Curtain incident during its second Duty.
Each Water Curtain incident requires firefighter (technical crew) response, and takes a substantial amount of time to complete. It'll likely tie up one of your fire units for at least a few hours on the in-game clock.
The first Water Curtain incident begins exactly 2 minutes (on the in-game clock) after the start of the mission. Each additional incident will trigger at 2 minute intervals after that. The last incident triggers when there are exactly 2 minutes left on the clock.
In order to complete the related Objective, all 5 incidents must be properly resolved.
Call Incidents[]
On the first Duty of the Heatwave event, the Baby In A Car Call Incident will always occur. It is a fairly simple incident in which a baby is spotted in the back seat of a locked car, sitting out in the sun.
On this particular duty, the Baby In A Car call will usually be the first call of the day.
Major Fire[]
In Campaign mode only, on the final Duty of the Heatwave event, the Fire In The Woods incident will always occur. This incident spawns a Major Fire, which poses a formidable challenge to your fire units.
In Freeplay mode, the Major Fire occurs without the preceding call incident [verification needed].
The fire does not occur at all in Scenario mode.
Game Types[]
This event has different trigger conditions and/or effects depending on the type of game being played.
Campaign Game[]
In a Campaign game, the Heatwave event always begins on Duty #9, and ends on Duty #12.
The Baby In A Car Call Incident always occurs on Duty #9
The Deal With The Heat objective appears on Duty #10, together with the five Water Curtain incidents.
Unlike other game modes, Duty #11 (being the third Duty of the event) takes place at night. The temperature is significantly lower, and appears to reduce (or eliminate) the effect of the Hot tag (see above) for the duration of that Duty.
On Duty #12, the Fire In The Woods incident triggers early on (either the first or second call of the Duty).
In Campaign mode only, the location of the Major Fire resulting from the Fire In The Woods incident is specific to each of the Campaign maps. Below is a (currently partial) list of locations where this fire will always occur:
| City | District | Location description |
|---|---|---|
| Berlin | Tegel | Inside the park at the northern part of the district, north of Road 111. |
| London | Barnet | Near the north-northwestern edge of the district, alongside Barnet Way. |
- Additional locations will be added in the future, pending research.
The Pandemic Outbreak DLC does not change the timing or behavior of this event.
Freeplay Game[]
The Heatwave event can only happen in a Freeplay game that is played on "Junior" or "Middle" difficulties. It will never occur at any other difficulty level.
- At "Junior" difficulty, this event has a chance to trigger between Duty #4 and Duty #14.
- At "Middle" difficulty, this event has a chance to trigger between Duty #1 and Duty #11.
In both cases, the event will run for 3 Duties. All three Duties feature temperatures over 30 degrees Celsius (considered "Hot"), and all three take place during daytime.
There is no guarantee that this event will spawn at all during a given Freeplay game.
In Freeplay mode, the Major Fire occurs on the third Duty. It is not preceded by a Call Incident [verification needed], and may occur at any location in the city that the game considers appropriate.
When starting a new Freeplay game, the menu allows you to turn this event off completely, in which case it will not occur even if conditions are suitable for it.
This event is flagged as "not lonely", which means that it may occur concurrently with any other event that is also "not lonely".
Once the event has concluded, it may not happen again during the same Freeplay game.
Scenario Game[]
The Heatwave event is the core of the Heat Wave scenario, which takes place in Shanghai, China.
There are several differences between the Scenario version of the event and the Campaign/Freeplay versions:
- The event runs for only 2 Duties. Both Duties feature extremely high temperatures, with the second Duty having a peak of 41 degrees Celsius. Both Duties take place during daytime. Once the event ends, the entire scenario is concluded.
- The event spawns two different Objectives named "Deal With The Heat". One of these works as described above, while the other tracks the overall Efficiency rating for each Duty. If the player's overall Efficiency value drops below 90% at the end of either Duty, this second objective fails.
- This version of the event does not feature a Major Fire nor the Fire In The Woods incident.
E-Mails[]
Event Start[]
On the duty in which this event begins, the following e-mail is received by the player:
| From: | <boss's full name> <boss's address>@alarm.gov
|
|---|---|
| Subject: | Heat wave |
| Operators, It's hot and weather is going to be unbearable. And people are reckless. They don't remember to drink enough water, they don't care where they leave the cigarette butts, they don't use sunscreen... You need to be prepared for anything, from severe dehydration to a giant fire. Sincerely, <boss's full name>Emergency Management Center Manager | |
Event Start, Scenario[]
In a Scenario game, in addition to the e-mail above, on Duty #1 the player also receives the following letter:
| From: | Weather Forecast Center |
|---|---|
| Subject: | Weather warning |
| Attention! Heatwaves expected tomorrow. There's a possibility of travel delays, road and rail closures and power cuts. Plan accordingly. Remember to stay hydrated and not to leave any flammables exposed in the sun. | |
Water Curtains[]
On the second Duty of the event, the player receives the following e-mail from City Hall:
| From: | City Hall |
|---|---|
| Subject: | Help during a heat wave |
| Due to heatwave, please help us by delegating several free fire units to set up water curtains in the city. This will ensure more favorable living conditions for our citizens. As a thank you, we will not forget about the small funding we agreed to give the Emergency Management Center. City Hall | |
Major Fire Warning[]
On the third Duty of the event, the player receives the following e-mail:
| From: | <boss's full name> <boss's address>@alarm.gov
|
|---|---|
| Subject: | High fire risk |
| The heat is still rising. The trees and grass are drying up. We must bear in mind that a fire could start at any time, and spread rapidly in these conditions. Please prepare us for such a situation. Against major fires, the most effective units are Fire Tanks, because of their large water tank, they don't have to come back so often to refill it. <boss's full name>Emergency Management Center Manager | |
In Freeplay mode, a Major Fire will happen on that same Duty. In Campaign mode, it'll happen on the next Duty.
Note that a Scenario game will end before this e-mail is sent - although the script does indicate that it should be sent.
Scenario Success[]
In Scenario mode only, completing the primary "Deal With The Heat" objective (which tracks overall performance) requires the game to send the following e-mail at the start of the next Duty; but the game is already over by that point, so the e-mail is never sent.

| Subject: | Congratulations |
Dear Mr <operator's name>,On behalf of the City Council and its citizens, I'd like to thank you for dealing with the recent disaster in an exemplary way. You and your coworkers showed great amounts of bravery and determination in minimizing the losses. Thank you. Best Regards, City Mayor. | |
