A Handgun (also known as a "Pistol") is a ranged weapon used by both police officers and criminals in 112 Operator. The default ranged weapon, it is equipped in the standard gear set and given to any new officer by default, at a cost of €2,000 (already factored into the recruitment price). Though average in firing speed and having rather low accuracy, the Handgun does not take long to injure a target or (in some situations) scaring it into submitting. However, the average time required to take down a criminal with this weapon still puts the officer at some risk, especially against large groups of criminals.

Description[]

"Basic armament equipment of officers. A small gun that you can hold and fire with one hand."

Overview[]

The Handgun can be used by both police officers and criminals, having somewhat different behavior in each case.

Police Weapon[]

The Handgun is an officer's default weapon, usually unlocked from the start of a career, scenario, or freeplay game. It is included in the default gear set for police officers, so you automatically pay the price to purchase a Handgun (€2,000) each time you recruit a new officer. When editing gear sets, the Handgun goes only in the Ranged Weapon slot.

The Handgun is a ranged weapon with a 15m range. It can shoot at any target so long as there is a clear line of sight. Otherwise, the officer may move until the target is within line of sight, first. If the officer also has a backup weapon, they will use that weapon alongside their Handgun as long as the target is within range of both.

The Handgun has a firing rate of 10, attacking once per 10 seconds of real time (on SLOW game-speed). This is roughly average among all weapons.

The weapon itself has an Accuracy rating of 30%. In other words, the chance to hit the target with each attack is equal to less than one third of the officer's own Accuracy skill. For example, an officer with 80% Accuracy only has a 24% chance to hit the target with each attack of the Handgun. This is a rather low chance to hit, made worse by the low firing rate described above.

The Handgun has a Damage rating of 0.33, giving it a relative good chance of injuring the opponent with each hit, instantly taking them out of the fight and requiring them to be treated and transported to hospital. By the third hit, the suspect is guaranteed to be injured. Note that some suspects may surrender first (especially if they are not hardened criminals who are determined to fight), requiring an arrest instead of medical treatment.

The Handgun is a baseline weapon with no particular advantages or disadvantages; nearly all other weapons have some benefit over it. Nevertheless, even if you don't equip your officers with any other weapon, a Handgun should be enough in a one-on-one fight with most petty criminals. Once larger groups of criminals begin appearing, consider upgrading some officers with better weapons; or alternatively send more officers to each dangerous crime scene to overwhelm the enemy with firepower.

Criminal Weapon[]

Criminals are also allowed to carry Handguns, and many different types of criminals can be found carrying them. Though not the most dangerous weapon a criminal might carry, they are very common relative to the danger they pose. Anything from robbers and murderers, mob soldiers and kidnappers, burglars and thieves, and even the occasional rioter has some chance of carrying a Handgun.

The Handgun has the same basic properties when used by a Criminal, but its application is somewhat different. For one, criminals may not carry two weapons simultaneously, and cannot boost the gun's properties using accessories, like officers can. This gives the officers a potential advantage in combat.

Furthermore, both the Handgun's chance to hit, and its chance to injure the target, can affected by bonuses given to the officer through personal armor or vehicle armor. The Protection bonus makes the officer harder to hit, while the Damage Reduction bonus increases the number of times they can get hit before injury is guaranteed. This allows you to further weaken Handgun-carrying criminals by equipping your officers with armor and heavy vehicles.

Note that police officers will never surrender to Criminals; either they get injured (or killed), or they keep fighting until all criminals are neutralized.

Availability[]

Available in the base game of 112 Operator.
