- "She's scared... that she won't be able to watch cartoons..."
Family Kidnap is a Call Incident in 112 Operator. It is allowed to trigger only after Level-3 Calls have been unlocked (in Campaign mode, that happens on Duty #9). The call spawns a single scene which requires police response, but may also require a search to discover its location (depending on the flow of the conversation). The call dialogue is completely predictable (no randomized responses from the caller).
The incident involves a woman who calls 112 but pretends to be talking with her mother, because she and her daughter have been kidnapped by her husband. The operator must find a way to determine where the family is (or send police units to search the area for their car), at which point police must arrest the husband and question the mother and daughter to understand what has happened.

Caller | Hi mom! I just wanted to let you know that I'm not gonna be back for dinner today! |
Trigger Conditions[]
The Family Kidnap incident cannot trigger before Level-3 calls have been unlocked. In a Campaign game, that happens on Duty #9.
Once this call is triggered, it will not be triggered again for the remainder of the game - except in Freeplay mode if "Repeated Calls" have been enabled.
Structure[]
The Family Kidnap incident is a Call Incident, which begins with a phone conversation with a citizen. The call is completely predictable: it contains no randomized responses from the caller, and the outcome depends entirely on choices made by the operator; the same choices will always lead to the same results.
This incident contains two sites: a massive Search Area, and the actual Family Kidnap Scene. Both sites are initially hidden when the call begins. There are two different ways in which these could appear:
- The Search Area appears as soon as the woman says that she is in a car. The Family Kidnap Scene will then appear once the search is completed.
- Immediately after the Search Area appears, the operator has the option to simply ask the caller where she is - completing the search instantly and revealing the Family Kidnap Scene.
- There is one specific conversation path that completely skips the appearance of the Search Area altogether, simply revealing the Family Kidnap Scene straight away.
The Family Kidnap scene is a moving scene; it must be chased to a halt by the police.
It is not possible to trace the location of this call. If you fail to acquire at least the search area before the call ends, there is no choice but to ignore the entire call.
Call Summary[]
The Family Kidnap incident begins with a woman calling 112 seemingly by mistake; she talks as if she had meant to call her mother. However, very quickly the 112 operator realizes that the woman is only pretending to be talking to her mother: she doesn't want someone to realize that she's called 112.
The operator begins asking a series of simple questions, attempting to ascertain the situation. He discovers that the woman is in a car with her husband and young daughter. They are alright, but the woman is afraid that something bad is about to happen.
The operator asks the woman where she is. She disguises her answer by pretending to tell her "mother" that she's thinking about meeting an old friend at a specific restaurant. The operator immediately sends police units to the vicinity of that restaurant, where they spot the car and pull it over, arresting the husband. The mother and daughter and checked, and quickly questioned to get the complete picture of what happened.
Negative Choices[]
The operator could fail to understand the woman's innuendo, resulting in his asking a very dense question. This leads to the woman getting fed up and loudly spelling out the entire situation, just to make it perfectly clear. The husband gets angry at her shouting, cursing at his wife and snatching her phone away, which ends the conversation.
Alternatively, the operator could ask the woman to just keep talking, but she's too scared to continue and decides to end the conversation prematurely; this is still a "positive" solution, but not quite as rewarding.

Search Area[]
A Search Area and Automatic Search Site can appear on the map during the phone conversation.
The Search Area is a rectangle, 12 sectors wide on each side - for a total of 144 sectors. One of these sectors (selected at random) contains the hidden incident site you're searching for.
By default, each sector requires 30 seconds of Search Work to complete - a non-trivial amount. This can be reduced to 20 seconds if the woman is asked about the kind of car she's in; still quite a bit of work, but much faster.
The search can be performed by any unit. Once the specific sector containing the hidden incident site is completely searched, the hidden incident site appears and the search is over.
Alternatively, simply asking the woman where she is during the phone conversation immediately resolves the search and locates the hidden site.
Resolution[]
There is no time limit to complete the search.
There is no reward for completing the search, nor any penalty for ignoring it.
Once the search is completed, it reveals the Family Kidnap Scene, described below.

Family Kidnap Scene[]
This scene appears once its specific search sector has been completely searched, or simply by asking the woman WHERE ARE YOU?. All other search sectors, as well as the Automatic Search Site, disappear from the map.
The scene contains three police elements.
Chase[]
This scene begins to move as soon as it spawns. Its maximum speed is random, between 40 and 100, making it easy to stop with most police vehicles, but it could be too quick for some. Patrol Cars or faster vehicles are recommended.
The driver has no Police Avoidance value, since he is not aware that he's being chased. He will not move away from police vehicles, making him easy to trap.
This incident cannot be stopped by Speed Cameras.
Resolution[]
This scene must be reached within 600 seconds of real time (on SLOW game speed) from the moment its location is discovered, or it will automatically fail. It will also automatically fail if it gets close to the edge of the map.
The default reputation reward for resolving this scene is +3. This can be increased to +6 by selecting the dialogue option I'LL SEND HELP.
Two possible choices reduce the Reputation Reward for this scene, if the operator is being particularly dense: DO YOU NEED HELP OR NOT? and WHICH CARTOONS?. It is possible to hit both bad choices during the same conversation, resulting in a negative "reward" of -1 for resolving the incident.
The penalty for ignoring this scene is always -3, subject to multipliers from the current difficulty setting.
Description[]
This scene takes place on a road next to the stopped car. All three family members are inside.
The husband must be arrested by police, and then taken to prison. He will not resist arrest.
Both the mother and child must be questioned by police.

Duplicate Scene Bug[]
It is possible, under certain circumstances, to complete the search before asking the caller where she is. This can be the result of simply happening to have a unit in the exact search sector containing the hidden scene.
If this occurs for any reason, two Family Kidnap Scenes will be created: One from asking the caller where she is, and another from completing the search.
In this case, resolving either of the two scenes will resolve both, and you get double the reward. There is no need to send units to both scenes.
