Emergency Landing is an Event in 112 Operator. It triggers on Duty #16 of a Campaign Game, and can trigger during any Freeplay game on any difficulty setting. It is also the only event that takes place during the Plane Crash scenario in Stockholm, Sweden. The event is very short in all cases, typically lasting less than a whole Duty, and often sharing that Duty with at least one other event.
In this event, a plane suffers a landing gear malfunction and plans to make an emergency landing at a local international airport. The air traffic controllers ask the emergency service to prepare the airport by clearing out the runway and securing it. As units rush to the site to prepare, the low-flying plane buzzes the Emergency Management Center. If preparations for the landing are completed in time, the plane lands safely with only a few injured passengers. Otherwise, the plane crashes on the runway, causing all sorts of havoc in and around the airport.
The event is mostly scripted through the game's internal code; but is nevertheless quite predictable. It begins with a Call Incident which spawns a scene at a local airport. It then creates a moving "Plane" which travels straight for the airport along a visible line on the map. Once the "Plane" reaches the airport's coordinates, the event spawns one or more Incidents near the crash site, according to whether or not the preliminary Call Incident had been resolved in time.
Effects[]
This event is hard-coded to simulate an aircraft moving towards one of the local airports. It produces a specific series of Call Incidents and Reported Incidents, which depends on whether or not the player can react fast enough to the impending plane crash.
Objective[]
By default, the Emergency Landing event is not associated with any objective.
However, the Plane Crash Scenario does add an objective to the player's objectives list, called Deal with the Planecrash. Despite its name, this objective actually tracks the player's overall performance during the Scenario's entire Duty, rather than how they deal with the crash itself.
At the end of the Scenario's first and only Duty, the objective checks the player's Efficiency rating. If it is above 90%, the objective is considered "successful" - and thus the entire Plane Crash scenario. Otherwise, the player has failed both.
"Efficiency" is the ratio between the player's Reputation at the end of the Duty, and the number of Reputation points they could have earned given every incident that has appeared throughout the Duty. This includes both the incidents spawned by the Emergency Landing event, and any randomly-generated Reported Incidents. Thus, a 90% Efficiency rating means that the player has earned 90% as many Reputation points as they could have earned, given whatever incidents were spawned.
Opening Call[]
The event begins with the Emergency Landing Call Incident, in which an air traffic controller from a local airport reports the impending landing. In all game modes, this incident occurs exactly 337 real-time seconds (on SLOW game speed) after the start of the Duty. On the in-game clock, this occurs about 1 hour and 45 minutes in.
As soon as the caller finishes speaking his opening lines, an incident scene appears at one of the local airports. This is where all incidents related to the event will spawn.
In both Campaign and Scenario modes, the airport scene's coordinates are specific to the city being played; the same airport will be used every time, on that particular map.
In Freeplay mode, the airport is selected at random based on data downloaded with the map. If the map features multiple airports, the event may pick any one of them at random.
Success in resolving the Emergency Landing Call Incident determines what happens once the plane reaches the airport.
Plane[]
After spawning the airport scene during the Opening Call, the game creates a "dummy" incident called "Plane". This incident spawns off-map, far to the south-east of the airport. A line is drawn between this incident and the airport scene. The "Plane" immediately begins to move towards the airport.
This dummy incident cannot be interacted with, cannot be resolved, and cannot be ignored.
After about 3 hours (on the in-game clock), a cutscene will play, showing the plane flying past the windows of the Emergency Management Center, with the operators gasping in amazement.
At around the same time, the plane should be close enough to the airport to appear on the map. It will keep traveling along the same line until it reaches the airport. This usually happens around 5 hours (on the in-game clock) after the Opening Call.
Preparation Success[]
If the Emergency Landing incident was resolved before the plane reached the airport, the landing is considered "Successful".
As a result, the game spawns only the Injured Passengers incident at the airport, in the exact same place as the Opening Call. The Injured Passengers incident is relatively easy to resolve; though it requires immediate medical response and the removal of many injured persons from the scene to a hospital.
Preparation Failure[]
If the Emergency Landing incident was not resolved before the plane reached the airport, the landing is considered "Failed".
Once the plane hits the airport, four different incidents are spawned immediately:
The Crashed Plane incident is spawned in the same place where the airport scene had spawned at the start of the event. The other three incidents are spawned at random locations within a short distance from it.
All told, these incidents require multiple medical, firefighter, and police units to resolve.
Game Types[]
This event has different trigger conditions and/or effects depending on the type of game being played.
Campaign Game[]
In a Campaign game, the Emergency Landing event always occurs entirely on Duty #16.
In this mode, the location of the airport scene is explicitly defined by the Campaign script, and is specific to each city available for play in Campaign mode.
The following is a partial list of the airports where this event will always occur:
| City | District | Airport | Location description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Berlin | Tegel | Berlin Tegel Airport | Eastern side of the largest airport on the map. |
| London | Newham | London City Airport | Small airport, right next to the Thames. |
The Pandemic Outbreak DLC does not change the timing or behavior of this event.
Freeplay Game[]
The Emergency Landing event can happen in any Freeplay game, regardless of difficulty setting. However, the difficulty setting determines how early this event can occur:
- At "Junior" difficulty, this event may only occur on Duty #17 or later.
- At "Middle" difficulty, this event may only occur on Duty #14 or later.
- At "Senior" difficulty, this event may only occur on Duty #2 or later.
- At "Principal" difficulty, this event may occur on any Duty, including the very first one.
There is no guarantee that this event will occur at all, but since there is no upper limit to the window of opportunity, it will eventually occur if the game is played long enough.
The Story Module containing this event makes sure that it will always be triggered on the same duty as a Gang War event. The Emergency Landing event will always happen first during that Duty.
The Emergency Landing event cannot be switched off when starting a new Freeplay game.
This event is flagged as "lonely", which means that no other event may begin while this event is in progress; and this event will never begin while another event is in progress. Note, again, that the event is exactly 1 Duty long.
Once an Emergency Landing event has occurred during a Freeplay game, it cannot occur again for the duration of that game.
Scenario Game[]
The Emergency Landing event is the core of the Plane Crash scenario, which takes place in Stockholm, Sweden.
There are several differences between the Scenario version of the event and the Campaign/Freeplay versions:
- The event spawns an Objective named "Deal With the Planecrash". It is described above.
- The event takes place on Duty #1, and is the only event occurring on that Duty.
- The event always occurs at Bromma Stockholm Airport, near the north-eastern edge of the Bromma stadsdelsområde district.
E-Mails[]
This event was meant to send one of two e-mail letters to the player on the Duty after it occurs, depending on whether the event was successfully or unsuccessfully resolved. Unfortunately, neither of the two letters is defined in the game files, and no text exists for it; so no letters are sent.
Trivia[]
The Berlin airport where this event occurs (Berlin Tegel Airport) has been closed since 2020 - the same year that 112 Operator was released.
