911/112 Operator Wiki

"Mark my words! the rise of the machines is nigh!"

Driverless Car is a Call Incident in 112 Operator. It is allowed to trigger only once Level-3 Calls have been unlocked (in Campaign mode, that happens on Duty #9). The call may spawn up to three separate scenes (including a search scene), and ultimately requires only police response. The call dialogue is completely predictable (no randomized responses from the caller).

The incident involves a man calling to report that another car has collided with his car and fled the scene. If questioned, the man reveals that the other car had no driver. The caller must be questioned by police while other units conduct a search, which discovers the autonomous car, still on the move and actively avoiding the police. The autonomous car must be stopped and inspected to determine what went wrong.

For the best solution to this call, see this guide.

Trigger Conditions[]

The Driverless Car incident cannot trigger before Level-3 calls have been unlocked. In a Campaign game, that happens on Duty #9.

Once this call is triggered, it will not be triggered again for the remainder of the game - except in Freeplay mode if "Repeated Calls" have been enabled.

Structure[]

The Driverless Car incident is a Call Incident, which begins with a phone conversation with a citizen. The call is completely predictable: it contains no randomized responses from the caller, and the outcome depends entirely on choices made by the operator; the same choices will always lead to the same results.

This incident contains a total of three sites: the Car Accident Scene, a Search Area, and the Escaping Car Scene. None of these sites is visible at first.

During the initial phone conversation, it is possible to determine the location of the Car Accident scene and the Search Area (separately). If the location of the Car Accident hasn't been acquired during the conversation, it can be traced, which takes approximately 450 real-time seconds (on SLOW game speed).

The Search Area can alternatively be located by sending units to question the driver at the Car Accident scene.

Once the search is completed, the Escaping Car Scene appears. This is a moving incident site which must be chased to a stop by ground units.

Call Summary[]

The Driverless Car incident begins with a man calling 112 to report that his car was just hit by another car. When questioned, the man says that no one was hurt, and the other car didn't even seem to notice the accident - it simply drove away slowly. He claims that the other car had no driver.

The caller sounds confused, and the operator asks whether he'd been drinking. The caller denies this vehemently, though he doesn't sound completely sober. He suspects that the car was some kind of autonomous vehicle, and if pressed, will begin to rant about the "rise of the machines".

The Operator decides to send a police unit to check on the man and question him. Meanwhile, another unit is sent to look for the other car; it is indeed found nearby, driving away from the scene. Police give chase, and the car even attempts to avoid them. It is finally pulled to a stop, and to the officers' surprise, does not have any driver inside.

112 IncidentIcon P112 IncidentIcon Call Car Accident Scene[]

This scene only appears on the map once either of the following conditions is met:

  1. The caller was asked for his location.
  2. About 450 seconds of real-time have elapsed (on SLOW game speed) from the moment the conversation began.

The scene contains one police element.

Description[]

This scene contains the driver and his car. The driver is not injured, and does not turn out to be drunk. He must be questioned by police, which takes twice as long as the average questioning session.

Resolution[]

There is no time limit to reach this scene.

The reputation reward for resolving this scene is +2.

The maximum penalty possible for ignoring this scene is -2, subject to multipliers from the current difficulty setting.

Both the reward and penalty are adjusted by -2 points if the operator selects RISE OF THE MACHINES? during the conversation.

Once this scene is resolved, the Search Area appears on the map if it had not already been discovered during the phone conversation.

112 IncidentIcon P Search112 IncidentIcon Call Search Area[]

A Search Area and Automatic Search Site will appear on the map either during the phone conversation or as a result of questioning the victim at the the Victim Scene. They will always be nearby the Victim Scene.

The Search Area is a rectangle, 2 sectors wide on each side - for a total of 4 sectors. One of these sectors (selected at random) contains the hidden incident site you're searching for.

Each sector requires 120 seconds of Search Work to complete - a very significant amount. This can be done by any unit. Once the specific sector containing the hidden incident site is completely searched, the hidden incident site appears and the search is over.

Resolution[]

The search must be concluded within 1,000 seconds of real time (on SLOW game speed) from the moment it appears, or it will automatically fail (which also instantly fails the Escaping Car Scene).

The reputation reward for completing the search itself is +2.

The penalty for ignoring the incident before completing the search is -4, depending on multipliers from the current difficulty setting.

Once the search is completed, it reveals the Escaping Car Scene, described below.

112 IncidentIcon P Escaping Car Scene[]

This scene appears only once its specific search sector has been completely searched. All other search sectors, as well as the Automatic Search Site, disappear from the map.

This scene begins to move as soon as it spawns, and must be chased to a stop.

The scene contains a single police element.

112 IncidentSubicon Chase Chase[]

This scene begins to move as soon as it spawns. Its maximum speed is 120, making it difficult to stop with Pickup Trucks or anything slower. Patrol Cars or faster vehicles are recommended.

The escaping car has a Police Avoidance value of 1.0, meaning that it will always attempt to move in the opposite direction of any police units. This makes it very difficult to trap with units coming from different directions, so it will usually devolve into a straight-line chase.

If the moving scene reaches the outer area of the map, it will instantly fail (equivalent to ignoring the incident). Speed Cameras will not stop it.

Resolution[]

There is no time limit to reach this scene.

The reputation reward for resolving this scene is +2.

The penalty for ignoring this scene (whether before or after it has been located) is -2, subject to multipliers from the current difficulty setting.

Description[]

This scene contains the autonomous car. It indeed contains no driver.

The car is a General Policework element, which takes 600 Work Seconds to resolve. This is a very substantial amount of time, given that it ignores any bonuses from officer equipment (though officer experience still helps).
