A CCTV - Closed Circuit Television is a facility in 112 Operator provided by the Facilities DLC. It can be placed on the map for €2,000. CCTVs provide automatic surveillance within their radius of effect, and will also automatically search any sectors that touch their radius of effect. Any number of CCTVs can be placed down, so long as you have the money.
Placing, Moving, Removing[]
With the Facilities DLC installed, a CCTV can be placed by accessing the Facilities tab between duties, clicking the CCTV entry in the list, and then selecting a position on the map. You must have €2,000 available.
A CCTV may be placed anywhere on dry land, including on roads, buildings, parks, or even wilderness - anything except water. You may place CCTVs outside accessible districts, if you wish. The money is spent only once the CCTV is placed; you may cancel the purchase before then without any penalty.
The CCTV's radius of effect is marked with a green circle whenever you hover over the CCTV's icon, both during and between duties.
When purchasing a new CCTV, the game displayes the radius of all existing CCTVs. This allows you to judge where to place the new one relative to the others in order to cover any important blind-spots.
Between duties, any CCTV may be moved around freely without paying any extra money, by clicking and dragging its icon on the map. It may be sold for €1,000 (half the purchase price) by switching to Facilities mode and clicking the small "$" button next to the CCTV's icon.
Surveillance[]
The CCTV acts as a surveillance tool within its radius of effect. During a duty shift, if any incident occurs within that radius (or is moving through it), you may inspect the On Site picture for that incident even if no units are present. This is done by selecting the incident and clicking the "On Site" tab in its details panel.
The displayed "On Site" picture is complete, showing all relevant information including weapons, names and descriptions, scene layout, elements blocked by other elements, and even the actions of the individuals (e.g. during gang fights), as if one of your units was present at the scene.
Search[]
When a Search-type incident occurs within the CCTV's vicinity, any sector that overlaps with the CCTV's radius of effect will automatically be searched as if one of your units was in that sector.
The CCTV has a nominal Search skill of only 0.3 - about half the skill of a rookie Medic - but that's still far better than nothing. Furthermore, the CCTV searches every sector within its radius simultaneously, at the same rate of 0.3 per second; if the camera's radius overlaps with many sectors, it can actually be more effective in aggregate than a dedicated search unit. Even if the cameras aren't left to perform the search entirely on their own, they will contribute their work to any units patrolling those same sectors, speeding up the search.
If a search sector happens to be within the radius of multiple CCTV cameras, then each camera adds its search skill to searching that sector, speeding up the process proportionally.
Note that a sector only needs the tiniest overlap with the CCTV's search radius in order to be searched at the full 0.3/s rate.
Tactical Benefit[]
The ability to view the On-Site picture of an incident before sending any units can be extremely valuable. It helps determine how many criminals are on scene and how well-armed they are, determine exactly how many injured are present, and view the size of a fire as it develops in real time. This helps you make efficient decisions, never sending more units than required, or dispatching specialty units even from far away, to resolve the incident quickly and without danger to your crew.
The importance of being able to search sectors automatically without the presence of emergency units also cannot be understated. With enough cameras, you can save heaps of money that would otherwise be spent on dedicated search units.
In order to save money, it is important to determine which areas are prone to spawning incidents; it's rarely necessary to place cameras deep inside parks, for example. Also note that placing CCTV along a shoreline will enable you to view the On Site picture of water-based incidents occurring within its radius (Water Operations DLC only). This is particularly useful in maps containing many rivers. If it turns out that a CCTV camera you've placed isn't helping enough, you can always move it between Duties to a more suitable location, free of charge.
Large non-urban areas, such as large parks or wilderness, are typically more effective to patrol with a Spy Drone instead of a permanent CCTV. A single Drone costs only as much as two cameras, and flies fast enough to provide good coverage; however it has a much smaller viewing radius, and has to be moved around manually as needed.
Finally, note that a total of 100 CCTV cameras can be placed for the price of a single Police Helicopter. Most maps, once all districts are unlocked, can be fully-covered with just a few hundred cameras. If you're considering purchasing a helicopter, especially for search purposes, it's always a good idea to at least consider covering a large part of the map with CCTV cameras instead.
