- For the alternative version of this incident, see Burning Building (Arsonist v2). For the general incident of the same name, see Burning Building.
Burning Building is the name of a pair of Reported Incidents in 112 Operator. Both incidents can only occur during the Arsonist event. They share the same name as well as some properties, but the outcome of each incident is very different. This article deals only with the version that does not result in finding the arsonist.
This is a Search incident, ultimately requiring only firefighter response. It has one search site and one incident site, which both spawn on the map simultaneously. The search reveals nothing in this version of the incident, but does award some Reputation points (and costs points if ignored).
The incident involves a burning building that shows signs of arson. While firefighters rush to put out a quick-spreading fire, police units must comb the area in an attempt to find the arsonist. In this version of the incident, the arsonist is not found.
Conditions to Spawn[]
The Burning Building incident cannot spawn during normal play; it can only spawn as part of the Arsonist event. That event is split into two distinct parts: The first part ends with The Arsonist Call Incident; and if the arsonist was not found and caught during that incident, the event continues on to its second part.
If triggered, the second part of the Arsonist event begins three Duties after The Arsonist call. On that third Duty, the Burning Building incident occurs exactly three times. The first two are always the "false" version (described in this article), and the third instance is the "true" version (where the arsonist is found and can be caught by police).
If the arsonist still wasn't caught in that final incident, the process repeats again on the next duty; except the Burning building only happens twice: One "false" instance followed by a "true" instance.
If the arsonist still wasn't caught, the same thing repeats on the final Duty of the event: One "false" and one "true" version. This is your last opportunity to catch the arsonist.
Failing to catch the arsonist on all three opportunity results in failing the event and its related objective.
Search[]
This version of the Burning Building incident begins with a Search Area and Automatic Search Site appearing on the map.
The Search Area is a rectangle, <X> sectors wide on each side, where X can be 3, 4 or 5 - for a total of 9, 16, or 25 sectors, respectively. The size is chosen completely at random. One sector (selected at random) is secretly marked as the objective of the search.
Each sector requires 60 seconds of Search Work to complete - longer than normal for search-type incidents. This can be done by any unit.
Once the "objective" sector has been completely searched, the search ends and all markers disappear from the map.
Resolution[]
The search must be concluded within 1,000 seconds of real time (on SLOW game speed) or it will automatically fail the entire incident. Note that this is shorter than the time it would take to complete an automatic search, should the search area be 5x5 in size! A manual search is strongly recommended.
The reputation reward for completing the search itself is +4.
The penalty for ignoring the incident before completing the search -5, depending on multipliers from the current difficulty setting.
In this version of the incident, the search reveals nothing at all once concluded. You still receive the reward for completing the search.
Burning House Scene[]
This scene appears on the map as soon as the incident is triggered, together with the Automatic Search Site and Search Area. The two incident sites will always be nearby each other.
Resolution[]
This scene must be reached within 1,500 seconds of real time (on SLOW game speed) or it will automatically fail the entire incident. This is a very long period of time - more than half a Duty. However, the fire grows the more time this scene exists on the map, taking more effort to put out.
The reputation reward for resolving this scene is +5.
The penalty for ignoring this scene is -5, subject to multipliers from the current difficulty setting.
Description[]
This scene takes place in the open, and contains only the fire, which firefighters will need to put out.
When the scene first spawns on the map, the fire is very small - requiring only 40-120 Work Seconds to resolve. However, it immediately begins to grow at a rate between +2 and +3 with every real-time second passes (on SLOW game speed). Even in the best case scenario, this could escalate to a very large fire very quickly. The high growth rate also means that firefighters may struggle to put it out.
If the scene takes place away from a street (e.g. in a park), it is very important to send a vehicle with a large water capacity, as the fire will likely deplete a lot of water. Without water, this fire could be beyond the ability of any single firefighter crew.
