Plot[]

This call has only a single storyline, with two possible endings for the operator to choose between. One of these endings is significantly more difficult to solve, without providing any additional benefit.

Summary[]

A woman calls from one of protests rapidly erupting in the city. She reports that her boyfriend was severely beaten up by a police officer after he tried to stop the officer from spraying her with tear gas. She is black, and very resentful of the police, who were there ostensibly to protect the protesters.

The operator talks the woman through a few first aid procedures: setting the boyfriend's broken leg so that it doesn't move; and sitting him up so that he doesn't bleed into his own lungs and suffocate.

Realizing that more police wouldn't be welcome, the operator decides to only send an ambulance to treat and remove the injured man.

  • On arrival, units will find the caller and her injured boyfriend where she said they would be.
  • The caller is Resolved by default, and does not (normally) require any interaction.
  • By default, the boyfriend is heavily injured and bleeding, giving you 120 seconds from the start of the phone call to treat him. He requires transportation to a hospital.
  • If the operator instructed the caller to sit her boyfriend up, he will stop bleeding altogether. You now have plenty of time to reach him, and he requires only treatment on site - no transport to hospital needed.
  • If the operator instructed the caller to try and set her boyfriend's broken bone, his Hit Points will be set to 40, giving you only 80 seconds to treat him - starting at that moment.
  • If the operator instructed the caller to try and move her boyfriend, his bleeding is exacerbated to -0.8/s, giving you only about 75 seconds (usually much less) to treat him - starting at that moment.
  • If the operator told the caller that he will send police along with the ambulance (even if he changed his mind immediately afterwards), there will be 6 extra elements to deal with: five protesters, and an alternative version of the Caller (the original remains present!). All 6 elements must be interrogated by police.
  • Each of the five protesters has a 10% each to start a fight with the police. Since there are five of them, this is a non-trivial chance. Any protester who joins the fight has a chance to get injured, requiring medical treatment and transportation to hospital. Any fighters who aren't injured will need to be arrested and transported to jail.

Optimal Conversation[]

This conversation attempts to maximize the number of Reputation points received for successfully resolving the call (12). However, this makes the conversation quite a bit longer.

Alternatively, the conversation below marks a point where you can skip forward to the end, cutting the conversation in half, but awarding you only 8 Reputation points. Use this option if you are severely pressed for time.

Speaker Dialogue Extra Effects
Operator 911, what's your emergency?
Caller Send an ambulance! My boyfriend was beat up! Reputation +8.
WHERE ARE YOU?
Operator Where did it happen?
Caller At the protest at <address>! Location discovered.
HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?
Operator How exactly did it happen?
Caller We've been attacked by the police! They were supposed to protect the protesters, but of course that's never how things go. They had to show they were stronger than us. Fucking pigs...
WHAT WAS THE REASON?
Operator Do you know how the fighting started?
Caller And since when do the police need a reason to beat up black people?
Skip to the marked section below if you wish to shorten the conversation for fewer Reputation points.

Otherwise...
WHO ATTACKED FIRST?
Operator Miss, do you know who attacked first?
Caller They did! All Joe did was lightly push the fucker who threatened to gas me! That got him battoned in the legs, and even when he was already down that sadist kept hitting him! He only stopped when he got Joe in the chest and he started breathing weird... Enable option SIT HIM UP.
IS HE BREATHING?
Operator OK. Is your boyfriend breathing?
Caller He's breathing, but barely. He can't talk. But he's conscious, he's looking at me.
ANY BROKEN BONES?
Operator Can you see any obvious signs of serious injuries?
Caller Ummm... I can't tell, but I think something might be wrong with his knee.
IMMOBILIZE IT
Operator Alright, first of all, try not to move the injured leg. See if you can immobilize it. Gently put something under the knee, a jacket or a hoodie folded up.
Caller I'm taking my jacket off, hold on . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Done! Reputation +2.
Ignore Reputation set to -6.
IS THE AIRWAY BLOCKED?
Operator Can your boyfriend breathe normally? Is there anything obstructing his breathing?
Caller There's nothing in his mouth, but it's really crowded around here and pretty stuffy.
SIT HIM UP
Operator Help him up into a sitting position. There's a chance he's started bleeding into his lungs, so sitting him up might help him breathe. Reputation +2.
Ignore Reputation set to -6.
Beat by the police Bleeding stopped.
Caller Joe, Joe... let's try to sit up. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I think it helped!
Continue from here in all cases.

I'LL SEND AN AMBULANCE
Operator Alright, I'm sending an ambulance, it should arrive shortly.
Caller Thank you, we'll wait. Call ended.

Choices to Avoid[]

Do not tell the caller to RESET IT or CARRY HIM OUT OF THE CROWD. Either option will not only exacerbate the injured man's condition, but will also make it so that you will lose reputation no matter what you do next!

Do not tell the caller I'LL SEND AN AMBULANCE AND POLICE, as this will instantly add 6 new elements to the On Site scene, complicating the situation immensely.
