The Air Ambulance is the only airborne medical vehicle in 112 Operator. Though costing as much as four standard Ambulances, the Air Ambulance allows getting 2 medics to any incident on the map with great speed, and retrieving up to one injured passenger for transport to a hospital. The fast response time of the Air Ambulance makes it an invaluable asset, but the vehicle is completely immobilized in very strong winds. As a helicopter, the Air Ambulance also has a good bonus to search speed.
Description[]
"Using a helicopter is the fastest way to get over larger distances, but it has poor acceleration and is very expensive. Has a small capacity."
Overview[]
The Air Ambulance is the only airborne medical vehicle in the game. It is one of the last vehicles to be unlocked during a career, scenario, or freeplay game.
The Air Ambulance is the most expensive medical vehicle, costing €200,000. This is the same cost as four regular Ambulances or Transport Ambulances, making it a substantial investment. However, the utility of an Air Ambulance cannot be overstated, as it is also the fastest medical unit in the game, and can traverse any terrain.
The Air Ambulance travels at a maximum speed of 250, completely ignoring offroad terrain and traffic. This is crucial, as most other medical units are very slow when moving offroad. The Air Ambulance is also able to reach both land and water incidents. It is a little slow to accelerate to its top speed, but still much faster than any land-based medical vehicle. With such high speed, it is important to select a driver with the highest Driving Skill, since every single point makes a big difference.
The Air Ambulance can bring 2 medics to an incident site, but does not provide them with any skill bonuses. This is equivalent to a Medical Response Motorcycle or Paramedic Fly Car in terms of effectiveness when treating the wounded. Thanks to its speed, the Air Ambulance can often reach a mass-casualty incident site first, and begin treating the most critically injured while waiting for other units to arrive; so consider equipping the crew with gear designed to help critical and/or heavy injuries.
Once injuries have been treated, the Air Ambulance can pick up 1 injured passenger and transport them to the nearest hospital very rapidly. With the vast majority of medical incidents involving only one injured person, an Air Ambulance can resolve many of them in quick succession. Even in mass-casualty situations, the Air Ambulance can use its speed to evacuate multiple passengers by hopping back and forth from the hospital multiple times in the same time it would take an Ambulance to make a single trip.
Additionally, like all other helicopters, the Air Ambulance provides both of its crewmembers with a +0.5 bonus to their Search skill. Since all search-based medical incidents in the base game involve just one injured person to be rescued, an Air Ambulance can resolve such incidents on its own without any assistance from ground units. Its low acceleration, however, means that it might be better to send it directly to the search incident site for an automated search, rather than going sector-by-sector.
Finally, it's important to note that the Air Ambulance is incapable of flying at all when the wind speed reaches or exceeds Level 15. Resist the temptation to replace all of your ground units with Air Ambulances, for this reason.
